Frequently Asked Questions
From your initial session through to your final treatment, proper aftercare plays a crucial role in the tattoo removal process. For optimal results, our technicians will recommend that you avoid sun exposure whilst wearing at least factor 30 sun protection on the treated area. Apply aloe vera and resist picking at any scabs or blisters to reduce infection risk. Wear loose, clean, non-fluffy clothing to prevent rubbing against the healing area. Sessions are scheduled 8 weeks apart to allow proper healing, based on findings from clinical trials.
The PicoWay® laser reduces the risk of hyper- or hypopigmentation by utilizing ultra-short picosecond pulse durations, ensuring minimal energy absorption across different skin tones. These ultra-short pulses create a photoacoustic effect that effectively breaks down tattoo pigmentation without generating excessive heat or damaging surrounding tissue. This significantly minimizes the risk of complications such as hyper- or hypopigmentation and scarring. Additionally, the PicoWay® operates at different wavelengths that are less likely to be absorbed by skin itself. This further reduces pigmentation change risks by ensuring laser energy is primarily absorbed by tattoo ink and minimally absorbed by other skin components. Overall, PicoWay® technology enables a safer and more effective tattoo removal process for all skin types, including darker skin tones that previously faced higher risk for pigment-related side effects.
The PicoWay® laser is highly effective at removing various tattoo colors, including some of the most challenging ones. It offers three wavelengths on a single platform to address all colors: 532nm, 785nm, and 1064nm. The 785nm wavelength targets the most difficult colors including blue and green. The 532nm wavelength addresses red, yellow, and orange pigments, whilst the 1064nm removes black, brown, green, blue, and purple. While PicoWay® is effective at removing multiple ink colors, it's worth noting that certain colors like white, light blue, and pink, along with neon colors, are generally more challenging and may need additional sessions compared to other colors.
It's not necessarily simpler to remove a recently applied tattoo compared to an older one. In fact, newer tattoos aren't easier to remove via laser technology than older tattoos. However, removal of a new tattoo is possible, though you must wait until it has completely healed before beginning the removal process, which typically takes around 8 weeks. This healing period is essential to ensure your skin is ready for laser treatment.
