Borehamwood: London’s Little Hollywood

Borehamwood has been called London’s Little Hollywood, due to the number of movies made there and the famous actors who have lived in the town over the years. This area began to attract big movie productions at the beginning of the 20th century when local farmers sold their land to film companies, who needed space to build sets and other production facilities. Before long, Borehamwood had become one of the UK’s leading locations for movie shoots.

How Did the Neighbourhood Become Known as British Hollywood?

The neighbourhood has been popularized by films, and many of Britain’s top TV shows have used studios in nearby Elstree, including Dr Who and EastEnders.

Although many of the homes remain private residences (and are still used for filming), as of 2016 some have become accommodation for tourists wanting a taste of Hollywood in Hertfordshire. Borehamwood’s buildings are often used as temporary studios due to their proximity to Pinewood Studios and Shepperton Studios where filmmakers can easily shoot their scenes.

Why Do So Many Actors and Actresses Live Here?

It’s no secret that a large number of celebrities choose to reside in central London. This is where most work takes place, after all. But some actors have opted for a bit more solitude and settled into one of London’s outer boroughs.

One such area is Borehamwood, an extremely popular region among those working in film, television and theatre production. Why do so many actors like living here?

It’s close to central parts of town and it boasts an impressive mix of restaurants and pubs. There are also plenty of parks, green spaces and shopping centres for residents to enjoy.

The area is also home to many film studios, which are always looking for new talent. This means that if you live in Borehamwood, you could be at a casting call or audition in minutes!
